Almost Human. Images from the Middle-East by Joris Luyendijk

Joris Luyendijk spent years as a correspondent in Cairo, Beirut, and East Jerusalem. He has written for the two most important Dutch newspapers (NRC Handelsblad and De Volksrant), and worked as a reporter for the Netherlands` leading television news programme (NOS) and radio (Radio 1). His book Almost Human. Images from the Middle-East – now published in Hungarian by Nyitott Könyvműhely – provides an analysis of the region and a razor-sharp view of the Western media. This makes it a important book; essential reading not only for journalists but for all newspaper readers and television viewers who assume that the information they receive is truly objective. In 2002, he was awarded with the Golden Pen, the Dutch prize for journalism.

Luyendijk – besides presenting his book – will also lead a workshop for Hungarian journalists involved in foreign affairs and foreign correspondents living in Budapest. The workshop will place special emphasis on the difficulties and conflicts surrounding journalism about the Arab world.

Joris Luyendijk and security expert György Nógrádi are to be hosted by journalist Evelyn Forró at DOCUART, on 6th November, 2008, at 7 p.m.
