Control - Anton Corbijn`s film on Ian Curtis
The gloomy music of Joy Division came as a revelation in the superficial glittering of the eighties. Lead singer Ian Curtis`s sensitivity bore subtle lyrics, but the fragile mind of the artist turned to suicide at a tragically young age, similarly to Morrison or Cobain.
You will not find the usual elements of rock musician portraits - the rage and the drug haze - in Corbijn`s film. Instead, it displays the puzzled poet and his lyrics, while the visual world of the film reaches heights of fine arts. A beautifully human story.
