Herman Brusselmans' novel in Hungarian: A férfi, aki munkát talált
Although Herman Brusselmans recently stated in the Flemish magazine HUMO that he would stop writing about existing people and situations, his works have been highly autobiographical up to this point. Alcohol, sex and boredom are recurring topics throughout his work.
Since his debut Senseless Sailing - Het zinneloze zeilen (1982), he has written many novels, plays (De Canadese Muur, The Wall of Canada, with Tom Lanoye, in 1989) and a satirical history of Flemish literature. His books, which are published at a mind-boggling rate, are guaranteed best-sellers in Belgium. The recent titles are the so-called ‘Ex trilogy’: Ex-schrijver (Ex-Writer, 1991), Ex-minnaar (Ex-Lover, 1993) and Ex-drummer (Ex-Drummer, 1994). In early 2007, the film "Ex-drummer" was released with Koen Mortier as director, and was also screened during the LOW Festival in 2008 in Budapest. His novel De man die werk vond (1985) has been translated into Hungarian by Szabolcs Wekerle.
