The Klankspeeltuin, translated as Sound Garden, is unlike any other playground. This is a playground where children, as well as youngsters and adults, can play with sounds. Sound installations and computers especially developed for the Sound Garden make it possible to embody, draw or dance a sound. Anything is possible, because here everybody is a composer. There is no need to be able to read music or to play an instrument to have fun in the Sound Garden.

The Sound Garden opens your ears. In regular music education the way to teach is often by reproducing music, but the Sound Garden awakens the composer in you. It is in no way comparable to any other project. First of all because the installations are unique. Furthermore, these installations make it possible for children to play and compose music from the moment they enter the Sound Garden. This form of music education is not like education in the conventional sense of the word, as no technical or musical skills are required. Both the active and the receptive practice of art is stimulated as the participants are not only composers but audience as well.

OMNI
The OMNI is a multi-coloured sound toadstool with 108 coloured enamel squares. Each square has its own sound and by touching one or more squares, music can be made. Different sound registers can be used, and therefore each target group can work with the appropriate sounds (e.g. world music, musique concrète, techno, Kagel, ICP Orchestra). The OMNI was developed by Guy Reibel and Patrice Moullet.

XenaX
The XenaX is a musical “pie” with four coloured parts. Each of these parts has a tablet which can be drawn on with a special pen. The sounds on the XenaX are abstract and were especially composed for this installation. The XenaX was developed by Yvonne Boelens, Marien Hogerheijde and Edo Paulus.
